Steven Wilson

M.A., M.Ed., ALC, NCC
Clinical Counselor Associate

Steven D. Wilson, M.Ed., M.A., is an Associate Licensed Counselor (ALC) and National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) credentialed clinician with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in psychology, communication, counseling, and community engagement. He earned all of his academic degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), including a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Health Education, a Master’s degree in Communication Management, a second Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Education, and a graduate certification in Nonprofit Management. He plans to begin doctoral studies in Public Health at UAB in 2026, further strengthening the integration of behavioral science, prevention, and community-level mental health into his clinical work.

Steven provides trauma-informed, skills-based therapy that is practical, collaborative, and grounded in real-world application. He is currently completing advanced training in STAIR (Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation) and integrates evidence-based approaches such as CBT, mindfulness, insight-oriented therapy, and psychoeducation to help clients better understand their emotions, relationships, and stress responses. His clinical philosophy is rooted in the belief that people do not need to be fixed—they need to feel understood, supported, and equipped with tools that restore agency, regulation, and clarity.

In addition to clinical practice, Steven brings a strong background in community, youth, and student-focused initiatives, including work with adolescents and families navigating high-pressure transitions such as ACT preparation and college readiness through local nonprofit programming. This prevention-oriented lens directly informs his counseling work with individuals across the lifespan, from youth to older adults, particularly those navigating life transitions, identity development, and long-term stress.

Steven is also actively engaged in UAB’s Music Matters initiative and serves as an employee volunteer with Arts in Medicine (AIM) through Medical Music Day, supporting healing environments through creative expression. As a lifelong musician, he views music as a collaborative, culturally responsive healing tool and thoughtfully incorporates sound- and music-based elements into sessions when clinically appropriate to support emotional regulation, connection, and self-expression.

Steven practices under the supervision of Kelli Lasseter, LPC-S, and is deeply committed to ethical care, professional growth, and mental health advocacy that bridges individual healing with broader community well-being. His approach is approachable yet intentional—well-suited for individuals who may feel unsure, overwhelmed, or skeptical about therapy, while still delivering depth, structure, and meaningful progress.
